Online Terrorist Videos
(including the "Dirty Kuffar" jihadist rap video)
Everyone--
Here are links to a couple of news articles, a video, and an essay, all of which have to do with terrorism and film. I am NOT linking you to a beheading video, though the news stories and the essay do discuss such videos. One of the links below will give you access to the jihadist rap music video mentioned in the news stories. If you right click each link and open each one in a new window, that'll make things easier.

Here's a Windows Media Player version of the "Dirty Kuffar" video that you can download.
After you've watched the video, print and read the essay "Weapons of Mass Instruction: Terrorism, Propaganda Film, Politics, and Us." This article first appeared in the journal Studies in Popular Culture in 2005 and was reprinted in the 2006 Film and History Annual. Parts of the article are pretty dated now, but most of it remains relevant. I realize that for some of you this might be the first time you've been required to read something one of your professors has published. Don't worry . . . the usual rules of engagement still apply: You're still welcome to ask questions and/or disagree with aspects of the argument. I promise I won't draw a frowny face next to your name in the grade book or anything like that.
