Thank you for showing interest in Science Olympiad Divison A! The goal of this program is to get more Elementary Schoolers interested in science and prepared for Science Olympiad in the future. We plan to do this by hosting science events once ever few months (hopefully more as the program develops). Below are some of the commonly asked questions:
Q: Are there any parents involved in this?
A: Parent's aren't required to help set up or plan the event. We have our amazing high school divison A leaders and middle school helpers that do so. Parents/guardians are welcome to join us and participate in the activity.
Q: Is there going to be some teaching by the high schoolers?
A: Yes! Since this event is ran by mostly high schoolers, they will also be leading the activities.
Q: Can homeschooled students or students not enrolled in Albany schools attend?
A: Yes!
Q: Are rising kindergarteners included?
A: Yes! Start the science journey young!
Q: Should I submit a different form if I am signing up for 2 students?
A: Yes! Please do! This allows us to see how many people are coming so we can plan according. (We need to know how many materials and sometimes snacks to bring)
Q: Does this apply to rising 6th graders?
A: The answer yes! We also recommend that once your child is in 6th grade, they join the middle school Science Olympiad team as a 6th grader.
Q: What are the roles of parent volunteers?
A: Since this event is ran by AHS students, parents who come to the event are usually there to supervise the kids and to provide help when needed.
Q: How will this prepare my child for other Science Olympiad divisions?
A: The projects are inspired by some of the Division B events (middle school Science Olympiad events) and are designed to help your child learn about the science behind them.
