Another Side
Bands have come and gone in Schuylkill County over the years, members from one band starting a new band with people that were in yet another band. The cycle goes on and on, and obviously this is what the music business has been like since day one. The only people that are in a band with the same people from day one are the kids (and some older guys) that started a band last month. There are few exception to this rule, such as out new Featured Band of the Month for June, Another Side.
Another Side Plays the best classic rock hailing from Skook. All fire members are experienced and talented musicians who know how to have fun. Fans relive the days of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s every night. With a perfect blend of musicianship and stellar vocal harmony, Another Side has been entertaining their great fans from East Central Pennsylvania since 2001. Another Side has performed at countless venues over the years. Nightclubs, fire halls, church festivals, private parties, weddings and fundraising benefits are all very familiar venues for Another Side. One of the hottest shows that Another Side hosts every year is known as The All-Star Jam. This is a large-scale concert in which Another Side performs with members of these former nationally recorded musical groups: The Other Side, Tucker Young, and The Jordan Brothers.
Renee “Peach” Gubala, Lead Vocals, Percussion, Renee “Peach” Gubala from Ringtown, originally from New Jersey, Renee moved to PA as a teenager with a newly discovered natural vocal talent. At 15, she added her powerful voice as lead singer of local band, Locomotion. She performed with them for 5 years and opened national for national acts such as Chubby Checker, The Coasters, Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon, The Chiffons and The Teenagers. Over the years Renee has had the opportunity to play with the other great local acts Alter Vine, Quadra, and Renegade. Gubala found a home 20 years ago with “The Fabulous Boleros” being formed by Jim “Rockgod” Siemanis of Minersville. Renee and Jim have worked together since then in a few musical projects, which eventually lead to the birth of Another Side in 2001. As an original member of AS Peach has been belting out the lyrics of Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin, and others.
Jim “Rockgod” Siemanis adds the Bass Guitar and Vocals from Minersville.
Jim is a seasoned veteran, who is no stranger to the stage. The “Rockgod”, as he is referred to by his bandmates, is an original member of the Other Side, from the 60’s to the 80’s. As a true “Lord of the Lower Notes”, Jim leads the band with enthusiastic musical flare. As the founding member of Another Side, he creates the foundation of the band by delivering consistently solid bass lines. Jim has played with The Fabulous Boleros (with Peach), The Frantastics and “G.C.”. During his years with The Other Side, Jim has had the great opportunity to tour the East Coast from Vermont to Key West, FL. Like many of us his musical influences came from bands such as The Rolling Stones and Vanilla Fudge, but his most revered icon, was virtuoso bass guitarist, Stanley Clarke. With many hours of hard work and by intricately studying his mentor, Jim developed a playing style like few in the area.
Drummer Frank “Blazer” Blozusky, drum Frackville has long-time roots in music, Frank has been a member of Another Side since the summer of 2002. For over 30 years, Blozusky has been a well-known and respected drummer in the local music scene. He was born and raised in Maizeville, a suburb of Gilberton, where he began his music career at the young age of 7. He had his first public appearance behind the drum kit in 1976 at the local bar “Stella’s” with a band called “The Kids”. At the age of 14, Frank became the full-time drummer of Whitey’s Band, a ten-piece horn band from Girardville. After many years with them, Frank and a few members of the band formed a variety group called “Steppin’ Back” which performed for 20+ years!
While living in Philly, In the early 90’s, he drummed with The Pain killers and Shotgun Wedding, and Tidal Wave. In 1994, Blozusky began a 6-year tour with an 80’s rock band called “NEON BLONDE”, until it finished in the year 2000. Frank has had the pleasure to play with great local bands Sapphire, The Mudflaps, Toolshed Jack, Doc and Macker and Joe Jordan of The Jordan Brothers. His influences include Liberty DeVitto (Billy Joel), Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd (Eric Clapton) and Steve Smith (Journey).
One of the two great guitarists of Another Side is Jim Juranis from St. Clair is a great and new addition to the band, joining in early 2011. Born and raised in Skook Jim has been a respected guitarist for over 40 years. His expertise has been shown in the bands Sheriff Jones, Section 8, The Fat Cats and a host of others. His performances set aside; Jim has paid it forward by sharing his talents, teaching countless guitarists for many years. Some professionals who have influenced his guitar work are Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, and Carlos Santana. As a consummate professional himself, Jim rips through guitar leads with the fluidity and precision of a Japanese Hibachi Chef.
Bill Lindenmuth, Another Side’s other guitarist (and Dad of our member Jess) comes to us from Cressona. Another Side is very proud to share the stage with Billy (a.k.a. “Birry-San”) who has played with many popular area bands since the 1970’s. Originally from Shenandoah, Bill has been a well-known and respected front man/guitar artist for years. He’s been able to perform with the bands Mammoth Fog, Section 8, Onionhead, The Mojo Dogs, Jackwagon and The Fat Cats. After filling in a few times with Another Side over the years, Bill became a permanent attachment of the band in April 2011. His blazing vocals whip the band’s fans into a frenzy show after show. Lindermuth has a vast and powerful passionate blend of vocal styling, including those of Robert Plant (Led Zepplin), Paul Rodgers (Bad Company), and Joe Cocker. As for his guitar work, Bill fills the air with that incredible full sound that makes a good band great. Bill’s musical influences over the years have been Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Another Side’s own Jimmy Juranis.
To add that little something special to shows is fiddle/violinist Adam Weiderhold, (who we had the distinct pleasure to have run sound and lights at our “Amped Up for O.J.” Benefit a few years ago). Adam has the stage experience that one could ask for, playing with some area greats including UUU. To add to Another Sides great shows Adam also runs the sound also.
Every great band needs their crew and Another Side is no different. The band not only acknowledges their technicians but treat them like part of the band. Chris Gubala Lighting Technician, McGyver Robin Greeninger Stage Crew, and Edith Pope Marketing and Merchandise.
Many bands and musicians have come and gone from the area over the years. Some move some retire, some just play in their basement for fun. The members of Another Side have taken their love and talent and not only been a permanent cornerstone to the area music scene but have been a bench mark for other bands to look up to. Get out and see Another side of Skook music.
