Hafla 2017 and workshops featuring Dawn O'Brien

Are you ready for a party?

This Summer's big Scarlet Lotus event will take place on Saturday August 19th.

If you want to get some new dance skills, as well as have a brilliant time with fun and engaging teachers, you need to sign up for our workshops. My guest teacher this year is the amazing Dawn O'Brien - don't miss out on the chance to dance with her, it will be a real treat!

The evening's hafla will be a wonderful opportunity to catch up with our dance friends from all over the region. I'm already getting requests for performance slots from some stunning performers, if you want a space, get in touch asap.

Fierce and Fearless with Kash Salem

Saturday August 19th 1.30-3pm - Avalon Constitutional Club.

Being a great performer means being able to engage with your audience and bring out your best self, fabulous and larger than life!

In this workshop you will learn how to carry yourself with confidence, build audience connection and conquer your stagefright like a boss.

Kash is well known for her stage presence, from sassy to smouldering, brooding to inviting. Inspired by dance, theatre, circus and drag queens. You can learn how to own the stage and keep your audience on the edge of their seats. Kash is a JWAAD trained teacher who dances Oriental and Folkloric Egyptian and Fusion bellydance. She is also a fire performer and general show-off.

Suitable for everyone from seasoned performers to students getting up the courage to dance with their class for the first time

Book your place now £15 (see below to book both workshops)

Drills and Zills with Dawn O'Brien

Saturday August 19th 3.30-5pm - Avalon Constitutional Club.

If you want a teacher who will grow your dance while also making sure you have an amazing time, then you need to meet Dawn O'Brien.

Dawn is going to be teaching a workshop based on the American Cabaret style - the classic "bellydance" that glamourises clubs and restaurants in the west and brought staples like veil work, sword dancing and coin rolling tricks into the dance.

For this workshop she will be focusing on finger cymbal technique, so bring some cymbals and be ready to learn how to incorporate this fun addition into your dancing. There will be plenty of practice, and some combos and you will be zilling away in no time!

Dawn is coming down from the Midlands to teach this workshop which promises to be a really good time for everyone. She is an experienced teacher and skilled performer who dances several styles including American Cabaret, Tribal Fusion, ITS and her own Khalgani Tribal format. She is renowned for her creativity, sense of humour and technique.

Join our party!

6-11pm - Avalon Constitutional Club

Want to see great bellydance performances? Hang out with the lovely dancers of the South West? Eat too much hummous? Shake your thing on the dance floor?

I'd like to welcome you to the 2017 Scarlet Lotus Hafla!

A hafla is a party for bellydancers where dancers of all levels can have a chance to perform, watch performances and meet other dancers. It's fun, informal and a brilliant night out.

We will also have a bazaar provided by Everything Egyptian - a great opportunity to pick up some costume or classwear.

If you are coming to watch and party, bring a dish of food to share - there's a bar on the premises so no need to bring drinks. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in but feel free to dress up.

If you want to perform, you need to contact me and I will save you a space. You also need to make sure you get a ticket and get your music to me, ideally as an MP3, at least a week before the event. Please be aware that at the request of the venue, we can't have any live music this time.

Tickets are £8 per adult. Under 16s are half price on the door.

Doors open at 6pm.
