About Hosmani
Short CV:
Dr. Hosmani did B.E. in Metallurgical Engineering from REC (currently National Institute of Technology) - Nagpur and M.Tech. in Process Metallurgy from IIT-Bombay. He was the recipient of a DAAD scholarship for doing M.Tech. research at the University of Stuttgart (Germany). He did Ph.D. work at the Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research, Stuttgart, Germany, and got a degree from the University of Stuttgart in 2006. He completed his Ph.D. in the area of Nitriding of Fe-based Alloys. He continued in research after his Ph.D. as a post-doctoral scientist for about three years in Germany (MPI, Stuttgart) and the USA (CWRU, Cleveland, OH). He received Fellowships from the prestigious Max-Planck-Society during Ph.D. and Post-Doc.
He held regular faculty positions at NIT-Surathkal, IIT-Delhi, and COE-Pune. He gained industrial experience as a Senior Manager at the R&D Center of Bharat Forge Ltd, Pune. Since June-2006, he has had about 17 Years of Post-Ph.D. experience in research, academics, and management. Currently, he is a Professor at IIT Indore.
In 2013-14, he got the ‘Best Teacher Award’ by COEP where he was one of the three best faculties of the year 2013. He & his students got 3 Best Paper Awards at conferences. He has several publications in international and national journals and conferences. He has written a book on 'An Introduction to Surface Alloying of Metals', which was published by Springer in 2014. He is also a co-author of a book chapter that was published by CRC Press in 2016. He has guided 14 B.Tech., 23 M.Tech. and 4 Ph.D. students. Currently, he is guiding 2 Ph.D. and 2 B.Tech. students.
The research interests of Dr. Hosmani's group are Surface Engineering, Severe Surface Deformation, Gradient Structured Surface, Surface Alloying, Coatings, Tribology, Microstructure-Property Correlation, and Physical Metallurgy.
