This course adheres to the objectives instituted by the College Board for A-G requirements for college credit with a grade of C or better. This is a laboratory course which you are expected to follow scientific methodologies, collect data and make accurate hypothesis through experiments
Classwork : Canvas will have all the information for submittal of all work
Labs are completed in groups several times during a unit. Grades for labs are based on participation in the lab and individual lab write-up. Data will be completed online and post-lab write up assigned as HW
Lab Notebook will be collected at the end of each quarter. Notebooks will include Classwork, Labs, lectures and any other assignments not collected during the unit. (Can be digital or hardcopy)
Extra Credit will be offered throughout the semester, however must be completed in specific time frames
Quizzes are given for at the beginning or end of specific days and will contain multiple choice, matching, true/false, and free response questions.
Assessments At the end of each unit, an exam or lab practical will be given to measure both comprehension or application of material presented
Projects will be given several times during the semester. They will be individual, group, or partner projects and may involve the computer lab or other research and a presentation. Group projects will be graded using a rubric and each student will be assessed on contribution to overall project
Final Exam will be given once at the end of each semester and will include topics covered in that semester.
The Honesty, Tardy, Harassment, Discipline, Homework, Attendance, and Truancy Policies of the school and district will be followed. See student handbook. Respect and courtesy are expected at all times by everyone in the classroom. Because disruptions interfere with the teaching and learning of students, it will not be tolerated.
Students who need to leave sessions without prior notification will get absence
Students who are not in class before the ring bell (or working on their warm ups when the start of class) will receive a tardy
Cell Phones – Be used solely for the purposes of education when teacher directed, otherwise must be put away and on silent.
All students with excused absences are allowed to make-up missed work. It is the student’s responsibility to request make-up assignments immediately upon return. The student is allowed the amount of days they were excused to return make-up work.
Tests: Students who are absent on a test day must schedule a test time upon their return. Students who do not show up for their scheduled test will be given a “0” for that test.
Students absent the day before a test are still expected to take the test with the class.
Labs: Students absent on a lab day will be exempt from that lab, but must make up the points by completing an article review. The actual lab cannot be made up. It is the responsibility of the students to ask for a make-up assignment.
Late work will be accepted with 10% late penalty per day not turned in; late work after due date will be penalized, unless absent or prior communication was established with teacher. All late work can be accepted until the day of the exam of the particular unit.
Students are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity. Academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, forgery, etc.) will result in a grade of “F” for the assignment, conference with parent/guardian, and application of school district policies.
