Team: Pocket Boom

The Strategy

Flank players set out with the intention of delaying the enemy advance rather than defeating the enemy. By digging in defensively with large military and launching small raids to harass. The flanks deliberately sacrifice their own long term development in an attempt to give their pocket player a free boom into Information age where any losses can quickly be regained with overwhelming technology. The flank players have to be adept at battle micro and tenacious digging in. If a flank crumbles too early, the game is up.

The Roles

The pocket player booms, the flank players defend and raid. With two pocket players it is possible to have two boomers but it is more likely that the flanks will crumble or the centre come under pressure so a second pocket is best utilised either in defensive support or doubling on one flank. It is important to resist drawing on the boomer for any significant help, the boomers job is to own in information age, even if that means sacrificing one or even both flanks.

The Scenario

Three or four player game on most maps. Suited for good late age players in the pocket.

The Bottom Line

The theory is fine, in practice, the flanks will struggle to survive much beyond 20 minutes, but a 25-minute Info age boomer will easily swat age 6 opponents and rescue struggling flanks. This strategy is not to be confused with the all to familiar rookie lone boomer; this strategy has to be co-ordinated.
