Incorporated in 2005, the Nanyang Junior College Robotics Club gathers students who have strong interest in various types of robotic systems such as the Robo-racer, Lego Mindstorms and Micromouse.
Instead of engaging external trainers, the CCA adopts a peer-teaching and self-directed learning approach, with the experienced seniors sharing their skills and picking up different strategies from other players when sparring with them. The club has been doing well competing in events such as “The Singapore Robotic Games”, “The Robo Grand Prix” and “The National Junior Robotic Competition (NJRC)”.
Since its establishment, the club has never failed to secure the top few prizes in competitions. As of 2017, the club has won nine championship and eighteen 1st runner-ups in less than eight years of the club history, including a 1stRunner-up Position claimed at the Singapore Tech Challenge (Tertiary division).
In 2013, the club was ranked 3rd in the Vex Robots Skills 2013 (High School category) and was invited to represent Singapore for the finals in the United States. The club also came in 2nd and attained the Best Robot Performance award at the National Junior Robotics Competition (Tertiary category). As such, NYRC represented Singapore in the World Robotics Olympiad.
In 2018, NYRC emerged as the champion at Singapore Robo Cup 2018 for the Rescue Cospace category, with another team coming in third in the Rescue Line category. As such, NYRC represented Singapore in the RoboCup International 2018, held in Montreal, Canada.
Besides participating in competitions, the club is also actively involved with the college and the community. Since 2013, NYRC has been actively collaborating with pre-schools to bring Robotics to pre-school children as an enrichment programme, as part of its community service initiatives.
