With financial support from the Museum Association of New York and in honor of the Smithsonian's Aurora Water/Ways Exhibition, Water/Ways Artist in Residence Robert LoMascolo is pleased to announce a new book.
“Back in 1850, “The Knickerbocker” magazine started a short series on “The Lakes of New York.” One of these stories focused on Aurora. The anonymous author (who might just possibly have been Washington Irving) clearly visited friends in Aurora and knew something of its early settlement history. The resulting story, set in the early 1790s, is great fun!” - Dr. Linda Schwab, Village of Aurora Historian

The legend of the "Whistling Rock" is back in print in a new and slightly revised edition! These books are completely letterpress printed in two colors, with hand-made seaweed paper covers, and a real "lucky stone" is attached to each book.
Even though rocks do not whistle, the legend of the Whistling Rock was inspired by the naturally formed holes found in some of the rocks surrounding Long Point State Park in Aurora, New York. The real reason for the holes is likely the result of impurities or fossils commonly found in the rocks which have weathered more quickly than the rest. Never the less, these rocks usually called "lucky stones," are considered a bit of a local curiosity. Similar to hunting for four-leaf clovers, the patient and observant beachgoer can make good sport of searching for stones, and few leave empty handed. The included rock, is a real "Whistling Rock," and the hand-made paper covers are embedded with actual seaweed from Cayuga Lake.Â

Peregrinations of French Types in the Sixteenth Century: Printing of Robert Bellamarine’s Disputationes in Southern Germany
This book is somewhat of a rarity in our modern age, as it is a true leaf book that contains two original leaves (4 pages) printed in 1591 by David Sartorius in Ingolstadt.
The scholarly text, written by noted type historian and book designer Mark Argetsinger, explores how the types of French masters such as Claude Garamond came to be used in Sartorius’ printing house in southern Germany. The peregrinations of early French types is a subject that deserves more study, and this book will be of interest to all those concerned with the history of the book, history of typography, descriptive bibliography, and printing of the Counter-Reformation.
Retired Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Professor Herbert H. Johnson has written the foreword as well as provided the leaves from an incomplete volume in his impressive collection of rare books.
