RA planes 7

RA240: Reverse annotation:

"Hawker 'Demon' Rolls Royce 'Kestrel' at Mosul"

This is the prototype aircraft which made it's first flight on 10th February 1933.

RA242: Reverse annotation:

"Hawker 'Demon' Rolls Royce 'Kestrel' at Mosul. Northern Iraq."

This is the prototype aircraft which made it's first flight on 10th February 1933.

RA244: Reverse annotation: Different handwriting and in pencil added at right angles to a crossed through list of names.

"Fllt D' A Greig taking off in S5."

Flt S N Webster won in Venice 1927 in N220 and set a new world speed record at the same time.

I believe this photograph is later - perhaps 1929 - and perhaps a practice run for the race at Calshot where Greig came third in N220.

List of names: I can find no connection to the trophy races.

"Birch, McCloud, Goddard, Foster, Lincoln, Marsden, Laurey, Jenkins"

RA246: Without reverse annotation:

S1596 on the left - N248 centre - S1595 on the right.

Final Schneider Trophy race - September 1931, Cowes. S1595 won the trophy and S1596 gained the world speed record.

Large building behind is similar to one shown in a postcard of N220 at CALSHOT.
