Robert Howe, after leading the burning of Fort Johnston, was appointed as commanding general of the southern Department of the Continental Army in April 1777. LINK
John Ashe was appointed to explain the need for military organization. The Continental Congress promoted him to Brigadier General for this and other services. LINK
Cornelius Harnett, after the burning of Fort Johnston, the British offered to pardon all North Carolians who would lay down their arms and submit to the laws. Cornelius Harnett and Robert Howe were explicitly excluded from the pardon. LINK
Richard Caswell, after the success at Fort Johnston, he led the brigade in a decisive victory over loyalist forces at Moore's Creek Bridge. LINK
Zachariah Jacobs-Holmes, a free man of color of both African and Native American ancestry.
In 1778, Zachariah was drafted into the Brunswick County, North Carolina Militia and served General John Ashe, Col. John Alexander, and Captain Joseph Wood. LINK
