Does a river’s turbidity change in space and time?
The amount of sediment suspended in river water can negatively affect the life in the river. Remote sensing can show where, when, and how muddy the water is. When there is much sediment in the water, there is much reflectance in LANDSAT 5 band 2 (landsat 8 band 3). Using LANDSAT 5 or 8 images of a large river at various seasons of several years, find out where and when the river has the highest turbidity. Is there any pattern? Offer explanations in variations in the pattern. What might cause the high turbidity? If there is a river near you, what could be done locally to reduce suspended sediment?
