'Key Lock' Puzzle Stack

OK, this project might seem as a bit of a puzzle itself to assemble. So, before I give you any hints, here's an original illustrated note to myself.

The 'squares' are each about 1/4 inch thick which is slightly thicker than the 'stub' on the long Key Rod. The center of each square is actually a hole that is slightly larger than the diameter of the Key Rod.

Of course, the shaded area of each square represents the solid part and the white zone is the section that is cut out of each square.

You could build this using 1/4 inch thick foam core or in wood if you have the access and skill to use woodworking tools.

It is 'mission critical' that the generic parts shown above are assembled in order and in the orientation shown.

Done correctly, you should be able to thread the Key Rod through the assembled tower of squares. It is tricky. Can you spot the path by examining the parts?
