About Janet Newman Ali (Piano Teacher)

I have been teaching piano in Colorado since moving here from Michigan in 2001. My mother made sure all five children in the family had the opportunity to take piano lessons as she was not able to do so growing up in WW2 America with her father passing away when she was two years old.

Our home always had piano music drifting through the rooms, beautifying and adding joy to our daily lives. My goal is to help bring this joy into the households of others.

I studied piano for 10 years as a child and participated in Federation festivals, solo and ensemble festivals, and served as an accompanist to other instrumentalists. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a piano concentration. I also studied two years of composition, two years of jazz and one year of private voice and participated in the choir for 6 years. I had the very fortunate opportunity to serve as Big Band pianist under the direction of the great Ron Miles.
