Certifications
There are a number of different organic certification systems in Australia. The pricelist sent by the wholesaler lists the name and location of the farm the item comes from and the acronym of their certification. The order to the wholesaler is cced to the whole group so anyone can check these details. The acronyms and what they stand for are:
We are not strictly "locavore", but almost all of the producers are located in the eastern seaboard states of Australia (QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS). Once in a blue moon something from overseas (usually Thailand) turns up in the price list, still certified organic, and we might buy it, but this is very rare. Again, all provenance and certification status of the fruit and veg is shown on the weekly order form and shared with the group.
Eggs (ON HOLD CURRENTLY: NOT AVAILABLE IN ONLINE SHOP)
We order our eggs from Yvonne of Portland Eggs at Bondi Junction Village Markets. They are not certified organic. They are listed as being from:
- pasture-fed chickens who eat green veggies, pumpkin, wheat worms and wheat
- on land not treated with chemicals for 20 years
- the chicken don't eat don't eat fish meal, fish oil or animal protein
- no GMO corn or soy products
- no chlorinated water
