TIRUPATI: Bronze statues of Rallapalli Anantakrishna Sarma and Sadhu Subrahmanya Sastry were installed near SPW College and in front of SVETA campus respectively. TTD Chairman B.Karunakar Reddy unveiled the statues here on Saturday. Rallapalli is credited with composing tunes to Annamayya keertans. During his stint in the Oriental Research Institute he deciphered and published several compositions.

Sadhu Subrahmanya Sastry was instrumental in bringing to light the copper plates containing inscriptions of Annamayya keertans from the ‘Bhandagaram’ in the Tirumala temple. As the ‘Parepathyadar’, ‘Peishkar’ and epigraphist of the TTD, Sastry meticulously researched on Tirumala’s history to bring out a comprehensive volume.

“But for these two literary giants, nobody would know Annamayya, the glory of his compositions and even how to sing the kirtans”, Mr. Karunakar Reddy said on the occasion. SVETA Director Bhuman, who was instrumental in installing the statues, also recalled their contribution.
