Space debris almost hits airliner at Flightstory.net - Aviation Blog
The Important Question Is:-
If This Aircraft Had Been Hit By A Piece Of The Observed Space Debris, What Would The Authorities Have Blamed For The The Destruction Of The Plane?
Would It Have Been Another PA 103 Type Incident?

Added Info by M Peters-They say they are not going to try to repair the heat shield covers--and furthermore they
had problems with the valve before their take off in Flda but decided it was okay after one day to go anyways.
It is believed the antenna which became dislocated while in flight preventing information to be sent back to earth
during voyage to International space station or to have pictures taken . This has not been repaired.
They are presently using a communications antenna aboard the International space station. They had no way
to be advised of space debris coming at them after the antenna on the Discovery was mangled and while they
never said it may have damaged the heat shield that they have decided not to repair either the antenna or the space
heat shield. They do not have another 1700 gallon fuel tank to replace the one on the Discovery
and probably would be dangerous to do so.
There is a leak in the valve as I had previously predicted=however I hope by now they have tried to get
SOME form of warm water to try pouring over it to open it.
Having had the experience of buses running on propane it was a valuable asset to have male drivers
when refuelling in the winter. I just hope they get back safe and sound. Maggie Peters

Shuttle & Space Station Problems 2010
Why wasn't the International Space Station built on the Moon, rather than in orbit?
It would have been far easier to build, far more environmentally friendly and would
reduce the possible threat of the station being hit by space debris. Plus of course
remove any possible the threat of a space station re-entry and impacting our planet
Earth. John Hall

Did you know that on Apr 17th they were seen from
Florida to Louisiana to Alabama
18th from Tennesse to Indiana to Missouri to Washington
19th Indiana
20th seen in Arkansas and Montana.
Do you suppose this was space debris falling and some hit the Oil Rigging just off the coast of Louisiana.
On the 17th it went north on the 18th went to Central USA
and to south eastern in Missouri not far from Louisiana and on the 19th back east to Indiana and on the 20th central and north eastern USA--whats to say that something didnt hit in the Atlantic where it always falls as this is where the astronauts dump their garbage---I wonder if they dumped the 1700 gallon tank that the valve was stuck on the same as they did the other one a couple of years back over the Atlantic.

Many thanks to Maggie in Canada for sending me all these articles below. Maggie has been interested in Outer Space for many years and is one of those few people who has the ability to do some lateral thinking on the subject. Her support and interest has been like a breath of fresh air to me and it is really great to meet someone who is also very concerned about the serious threat space debris impacts pose to our planet.
I have taken the liberty of adding a few of my comments to each article address.

Two interesting points on this site are:-
1 The article states that: 'On average, one piece of space debris entered the Earths atmosphere everyday'. It's my opinion that this statement is being a bit economical with the truth, I estimate that there is far more than one piece of space debris on average entering our atmosphere and a lot of it is not burning up and is impacting our planet at random.
2 With regards to the Skylab (1), the picture shows the missing solar panel, (Left or port side) I believe this was lost in the early period, soon after it was launched. The lost solar panel consisted mainly of solar cells silicon (Si) chips, with a boiling point of 2355 degrees C. Take note, in view of its element, which occurs pincipally in sand, quartz and granite, it would very likely survive its re-entry through the atmosphere and impact the Earth with devastating results.
(See Skylab debris on page two of this site)
Thanks Maggie, very interesting.

This site keeps up to date positions of all the latest earthquakes that have occurred around the world. Both Maggie and myself hold the firm opinion that some space debris impacts are actually blamed as earthquakes.

Lost in Space: 8 Weird Pieces of Space Junk | From Maggie Peters Canada
These video's give me the impression that the space debris problem has not been taken seriously enough by the planners of these space operations. Surely, there should be safety measures taken to ensure this kind of thing is not allowed happen?
It's a good thing that surgeons are not as irrisponsible in the hospital operating theatre, otherwise we could be walking around with a pair of scissors stitched in our body.
