Robotics became a common competition among engineering students where they can showcase their technical skills. Robo Race is a simple and entry level Robotics competition where couple of Robots compete with each other in their speed and accurate control. There are two ways to win these competitions one being making a very accurate and perfect Robot and other being INNOVATION.
Conventional wireless controlled Robots utilize Radio Frequency circuits, which has limitations like limited operating range (10 to 20 m), limited frequency ranges and controls. Interference of operating frequencies (of Remote controls) of the Robots is a common problem in all the competitions.
To overcome these problems, I have designed this system, where Robot is Operated using a Mobile Phone. It has a robust control, unlimited operating range (limited only by coverage area of service provider), no fear of frequency interference with that of other competitor and we can have as much as 12 controls (can be extended by embedded Software).

The Concept:
The concept is very simple and old ..!
Have you noticed when you are on call, if the other person by mistake or wantedly presses a key, you will listen a beep sound. This beep sounds are called DTMF tones. Every key has a specific frequency. Now it is very clear that by pressing the keys you can transfer corresponding frequency from one mobile to another. The rest is simple, at the receiving end by decoding this frequency (decoding can be done by several IC's, I have used HT9170B), we can find which key is pressed at the transmitting mobile. Now onboard microcontroller is programmed to process these decoded information and controlles the motors.
Now, Just make a call to the mobile that is located on the Robot and press the corresponding keys to controll its motion ...
