Working with students is my most favorite part the day. It combines the science I love to think about and the teaching I love to do. I have been very fortunate to have had a series of truly phenomenal mentors -- from my family members, K-12 teachers, undergraduate and graduate professors, friends, and colleagues. I think it is vital that scientists give back and provide meaningful opportunities for novices in the field. Not all astronomy projects end in publication or in a professional career (heck, not all of them even get finished!), but with thoughtful mentoring there is always a more skilled and experienced person as a result.
