Graphic Design

One of my major contributions to the organizations I work with is doing professional level graphic design with Photoshop, coffee, and an artistic eye. There is something very important about making appropriate graphics to make sure a message comes through to your audience. Its important not just for Outreach, but professional level presentations.

Here are some of my favorites --

Central Virginia Star Party Flyer.

What:

I adapted the Dark Skies, Bright Kids! Logo and then carefully worked in various logos of partnering organizations (here, the University of Virginia, Albemarle CiderWorks, the Charlottesville Astronomical Society, and the Department of Astronomy).

Why:

We advertised this event quite broadly across the community in an effort to reach as many families as possible.

Pepsi Refresh Video:

In 2010, Dark Skies, Bright Kids! participated in the Pepsi Refresh Project for a chance to win $25,000 so that we could put a copy of our book, Snapshots of the Universe, in every 3rd grade classroom in Virginia. Ultimately, we were not successful, but we learned a lot in the process.

Here is the video I made with footage from our program in Central Virginia: Dark Skies, Bright Kids! -- Embrace the Outreach Video That dopey narrator who can't stop laughing at herself is me. Don't judge. If you did interviews with 20 3rd graders you'd be silly too!

Our YouTube page has more videos of our program in action! Check it out.
