Each year in an effort to promote and recognize outstanding talent in mathematics, the Pennsylvania State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (PSMATYC) is pleased to recognize one student in a community or two-year college as the recipient of its student award. Any student wishing to be considered must satisfy each of the following criteria.
The student must:
Be a full-time or part-time student in a two-year college in Pennsylvania.
A cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above (based on a four-point system).
All college-level mathematics grades of A or B.
Completed a minimum of two college-level mathematics courses.
Grade of A in Calculus I
Completed at least 24 credits at a two-year college.
Plan to complete a degree in mathematics, mathematics education or other STEM related field
Submit a college transcript.
Any applicant satisfying the above criteria and wishing to be considered for this award must submit a written application, a transcript, and at most two double-spaced standard typewritten pages in which the following areas should be addressed:
Career objectives
Activities, including work experience
General philosophy of education
Any other information that may be helpful in making a decision
Awards will be made at the annual PSMATYC conference in April 2015. The student selected will receive a plaque, a check for $200, and may be awarded travel expenses up to a maximum of $50.
