Because it is BEAM's philosophy that caregivers are their child's most important teachers,
home visiting services are an integral part of the program.
The Early Intervention (EI) Specialist's role is to guide and coach family members to become an integral part of the child's developmental program. It is, therefore, essential to the child's progress that the caregivers feel comfortable and confident in their ability to carry out the activities and recommendations in the home with their child.
Keeping in mind already established family routines, functional outcomes are created to enhance learning opportunities throughout the day. Together with the caregiver(s), the EI Specialist will model, adapt and encourage the use of different strategies as well as provide suggestions for carryover throughout the day.
At the next home visit, the strategies and successes will be reviewed with the family. New or modified activities may be suggested depending upon the child's (or family’s) progress toward achieving the outcomes.
The home visit also gives the caregiver(s) an opportunity to discuss any other needs or concerns with the EI Specialist. Consultation with other providers may be scheduled and recommendations may be given for further resources if needed.
*Frequency and duration of sessions are determined based on the level of support required and decided upon by the team (which includes the family).
