Early Intervention is an educational and family support program for children between birth and 3 years of age who have (or are at risk for) developmental delays. Eligibility is determined through an evaluation process that includes an assessment of the child functional skills along with the family's strengths and needs. To qualify for services, the child must:
show a delay in one or more area of development (motor, language, cognition, social-emotional, adaptive) OR
have a diagnosis of an established physical, developmental or emotional condition that may result in delays OR
be at risk for delays due to certain biological and environmental factors
All children grow and develop at different rates. Early Intervention Specialists are trained to work with infants and toddlers to promote the development of skills and to foster positive parent-child interactions. You are your child's first teacher and your their success depends in large part on family participation.
All Massachusetts Early Intervention programs are certified through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. To learn more about Early Intervention in Massachusetts, please visit the Department of Public Health website at www.mass.gov/orgs/early-intervention-division.
