Depending on a child's outcomes, individual center-based services may be offered as a supplemental and/or alternative location for home visits. We have a sensory gym that is often used to facilitate motor development in addition to providing support for sensory needs.
Parent-child groups are typically offered to children ages 15-24 months. Groups meet once a week and are run by an EI Specialist. This group is a great starting point for children to learn to play alongside peers and become comfortable in a new setting with the support of a caregiver. Sessions focus on activities for the parent and child to engage in together.
During playgroups, caregivers are given the opportunity to meet and chat with other parents. On occasion, structured parent groups run by a BEAM staff member are offered; Your service coordinator will inform you when these are scheduled.
Toddler groups are offered to children 24-36 months. Group sessions take place at our center (located in Billerica) as well as other public toddler-friendly locations . A Developmental Specialist facilitates the group with the support of two Early Intervention Associates who have backgrounds in early childhood education.
Individualized programs are developed for each child according to his or her specific needs. Our groups provide structure and activities to facilitate motor development and coordination, to promote play and problem solving abilities, to encourage independence, to support socialization with adults/peers as well as to strengthen communication skills.
We believe in helping families throughout their day-to-day life which often includes leaving the house. For some children, going out into the community is a challenge. Project BEAM staff have met families at local playgrounds, the library, the grocery store and even the mall. At times throughout the year, we offer "field trips" to introduce families to some of the different community resources that are available.
