World Literature Series

Series Description:

The first course in this series, English 230, explores major works of world literature from pre-biblical times through the 1600s. English 231 covers literature from the 1600s through the today. While it is helpful to take the two courses in chronological order, this is not required. In both courses, we will analyze individual works, explore their cultural and historical contexts, and establish connections between works. The goal is to broaden horizons, explore links between the familiar and the less familiar, and become acquainted with literary masterpieces from around the world.

To get a feel for what the first course is all about, play the above video that I have created to introduce you to English 230: World Literature I.

Preparation:

Both courses in the World Literature series ask students to analyze and interpret works of literature, and this analysis is often presented in writing. To be prepared for success in these courses, English 115 is a required prerequisite. It is recommended that students also complete, with a C or better, English 116 and English 220.
