Course Description:
English 220 is a 3-unit course designed to introduce you to literature in three of its major forms: fiction, poetry, and drama. This course is designed for the beginning literature student, and it is recommended preparation for English 116 and specialized literature courses. I have selected memorable--and sometimes shocking--works to read, from a wide variety of writers. You will learn about the "tools of the trade" that writers use to create works of literature, and you will even have an opportunity to try them out yourself. Be prepared to think deeply about what you read, and be ready share your insights with your classmates.
Recommended Preparation:
Because this course involves extensive writing, including essays, I strongly recommend that you complete English 115 with a passing grade before enrolling in this class.
