Course Description:
English 116 is a four-unit course designed to make students stronger readers, thinkers, and writers. The course emphasizes critical thinking, logical analysis, and effective argumentation; we work on these skills through analyzing and writing about images, articles, and short stories. It's a great brain workout, but it is also quite fun. For a sense of what your brain will do in this course, watch the short video above.
Required and Recommended Preparation:
Because this course involves writing researched, argumentative essays, students must earn a C or higher in English 115 in order to enroll in English 116. English 220 is a recommended prerequisite because we will be writing literary analysis papers throughout the semester.
