Barnacle Landing is located on the west side of Mount Desert Island within minutes of Acadia National Park's natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Acadia National Park is the grand local attraction with its “mountains” to climb, ponds for fresh water swimming, carriage roads for biking and walking, and many natural wonders like Thunderhole and Ship Harbor.
Bicycle and kayak rentals and daylong kayak tours are available. Ferry service to nearby islands expands the options to explore life in Maine’s island communities. Fishing and lobster boat trips, schooner sails, and whale excursions run daily from Bar Harbor. The National Park hosts tours for natural history buffs. Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor offer boutiques and galleries for shoppers. Restaurants serving everything from lobster in the rough to gourmet meals are abundant. Groceries and newspapers are just five miles away. An organic farm stand operated by the College of the Atlantic is a ten minute drive.
