This ceramic sculpture made in 1983, Bodo Wentz: Fallsucht I (Falling sickness I), in the German Epilepsy museum, portrays two essential moments of epilepsy: the medical and psycho-social aspect of the disease.
I chose this artwork because I like that it displays both aspects. I think usually many people often times tend to focus on the medical aspect and forget that this chronic disease can lead to exclusion and social isolation of the patient.
Marian, you chose a very interesting topic to discuss! I did not even know that an Epilepsy museum actually exists. But i definitely agree that the disease has many pyscho-social aspects related to it. Epilepsy can be very debilitating to the patient and may deprive him/ her of many things such as the ability to drive etc.. - Nadeen Ayad
This is an incredible sculpture. Breathtaking actually. I wonder if it was designed by someone with epilepsy, a healthcare worker, or a family member. Whoever imagined it, certainly understood the intricacies of the emotions surrounding seizures, and epilepsy. Ruth Nemire
