Sponsorship
The Electrathon program requires the high school students to engage in project planning, fund raising, generating publicity, and developing team building skills in addition to designing, building, and testing a car, developing a race strategy, and competing. Therefore, many students from varied disciplines will gain from the program experience.
The communities supporting the students’ efforts gain as well. For example, employees of local businesses, who sponsor the school’s project, are directly involved with students while contributing to the project. In return they receive publicity as a sponsor through events, social media and monthly newsletters.
How does an electric car team receive money with no school funding? Well, to make a long story short, we rely on sponsors. Sponsorship is very important in the car making process. The building of a car cost is extremely dependent on if we reuse parts, which means a car could cost around $1500.00, or building a new car where we have a limit of $3400.00. This is not including traveling, extra lap batteries, tools and other supplies. So we thank all of our sponsors for their participation.
