Updated: October 2, 2019Because of the chaos this has caused over the past two seasons with max re-signs/etc, we will be making some changes to rules around these types of contracts. Going forward:
Per the NHL rules, teams can retain up to 50% of contracts however, the salary moving to the acquiring team cannot be below the minimum PHA contract amount. The minimum PHA contract is equal to the starting bid amount from the most recent Free Agency period.
Teams who trade players signed to a max contract deal in Free Agency that year cannot retain salary in trades.
Players clearing the waiver period prior to the PHA season opening, can be called up and down as many times as a team desires until January 1 of the same season.
The waiver period will continue to be temporarily eliminated 24 hours after the trade deadline each season until the opening season waiver period of the season following.

Today, the PHA league executives would like to make an announcement in regards to the PHA Cup. We recognize two of the pioneers who helped build the Premier Hockey Association from the ground up to what it is today.
Gordo was much more involved early in the league and started out as the Calgary Flames franchise, where he would land one PHA Cup win. In the 2013-2014 season, he would move the franchise to the current Atlanta Flames location. Gordo had been in the PHA from the first day until he passed on August 21, 2014.
More recently, we were saddened to hear the news about Lee's passing this year on July 26. He was a cornerstone executive of the league from the beginning through the 2014-2015 season. Lee too, was in the PHA for all 13 seasons of its existence thus far and during that time ran the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise, relocating to the Phoenix Coyotes franchise following his third and final PHA Cup win in the 2013-2014 season.
With two of our league pioneers leaving us, today, we announce the renaming of the PHA Cup in memory of Gordo and Lee. Starting in our 2018-2019 and 15th anniversary PHA season, the newly named Debney-McLellan Memorial PHA Cup was awarded to Oakland.
