Innovative instructional leadership
The world is rapidly changing. To adequately prepare students for an unknown future will require 21st century instructional leaders to think creatively to challenge and act upon traditional classroom and school paradigms that no longer fit our students needs. This course will provide students with a background in the diffusion of innovation, the foundations of change leadership, and an applied experience in design thinking principles to collaboratively create and share a solution to a real world problem facing classrooms/schools today.
This course will provide instructional leaders with the knowledge and skills to:
Understand the evolving nature of teaching and learning, established and emerging technologies, and the school community
Necessitate new organizational structures and roles in schools in order to successfully meet the needs of 21st century learners:
Support and foster a collaborative culture to support educator development and student learning
Apply design thinking principles and collaboratively create solutions that challenge traditional paradigms that are no longer responsive to today’s students needs
Collaboratively lead efforts to present solutions and action plans to school/district decision makers
Embrace change and model this for others by seeking new ways for improvement.
Demonstrate the professional responsibility to contribute to the effectiveness, innovation, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession, as well as to their school and community.
