Blended Learning Environments (3 credits)
Blended learning is an instructional method where a portion of the traditional face-to-face instruction is replaced or enhanced by web-based online learning. This course will provide participants with a background and applied experience in online learning and instructional design using existing and emerging technologies to support, assess, and enhance face to face instruction. Educators will develop a unit of instruction and implement as an action research project within the time period of this course.
This course will provide instructional leaders with the knowledge and skills to:
Understand primary concepts and structures of effective blended learning environment, one that is appropriately balanced with online and face-to-face activities and instruction
Promote student success through clear expectations, prompt responses, and regular feedback
Plan, design, and incorporate strategies to encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation, and collaboration in online environments
Utilize a range of digital technologies, both existing and emerging, that effectively support student learning and engagement in the online environment
Accommodate course resources/tools and create multiple paths for learning to meet the diverse academic needs of students
Develop and deliver assessments, projects, and assignments that meet standards-based learning goals and assess learning progress by measuring student achievement on these learning goals
Demonstrate competency in using data from assessments and other data sources to modify content and to guide student learning
