I am tired of listening to politicians – especially Democrats – promise “free stuff” to the people. They must think that most people are either gullible or stupid. I hope they are wrong. The most outrageous example to me is in relation to health care – which is a serious, big subject.
For years, we have been struggling and debating the best health care solution for America. The latest presidential campaign promise, which seems to have a lot of support among the Democrat candidates – is “Medicare-for-All”. That may sound good to a lot of people, but it is at least being misrepresented to the people and, in my opinion is an outright lie!
For example, Bernie Sanders has made loud declarations for “Medicare-for-All”. He shouted “no premiums, no co-pays, no deductibles”. Aside from who does he think is going to pay for this, he seems to have no concept of the existing Medicare program.
My wife and I – after contributing payroll tax to Medicare throughout our working career – now pay almost $8000 a year for Medicare insurance. Plus, we pay almost $2000 more for Dental and Vision care. And, thousands more in co-pays – depending on how bad a health year we have.
Do the Democrats actually expect people to believe that any health insurance will be free? Do they really understand how Medicare actually works?
Another rallying cry is for free college. There is no question that college education has gotten very expensive – and something should be done about it – like reducing the costs at their source – the colleges themselves. But, free college for all sounds like another civil right. Aside from who is going to pay for this, why is college education right for everyone. Many people with skills obtained without college actually make more money than many that have a college education. And the corollary is that many college educations do not lead to lucrative careers – in some cases of little use at all. I think they are even doing a disservice to people to make them think that everyone should have a college education – much less lying to them that someone else will pay for it.
I don’t see anywhere in the U.S. Constitution or Bill-of-Rights that citizens are entitled to “free stuff” from the government. In fact, it’s the citizens who are responsible to fund what the government does. I don’t think these politicians are stupid, but I think they believe that most voters are.
Unbelievable!
