What a year 2021 has been. Never has so much been “achieved” in so short a time by a new Administration. Some of the high/low-lights include:
An illegal immigration crisis on the southern border of the U.S. After years of tight controls, the border was opened and millions entered the country – including criminals, drug smugglers, sex traffickers, and the unvaccinated.
Lawlessness – including riots – became rampant in many cities.
Homelessness – along with filth – spread widely in most large cities.
Crime waves swept most large cities with significant increases in violent crimes including record murder rates – while the police departments lost the support of the politicians including defunding. Many of those arrested were freed without bail and many crimes – like theft – were not prosecuted.
After years of little or no inflation, the U.S. experienced historically high rates of inflation – the highest in 30 years.
As a result of attacks by the Administration on the fossil fuel industry (including shutting down pipelines, banning exploration, opposing fracking), oil and gas prices increased significantly and America’s energy independence was lost.
After years of robust economic growth and international trade, the country’s supply chain was seriously disrupted – resulting in widespread shortages of many goods and commodities.
Federal spending grew to exorbitant, irresponsible levels. And the national debt reached an unprecedented high.
The sudden, disorganized withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan was an embarrassing disaster – leaving many citizens and allies stranded – as Afghanistan was taken over by the Taliban – who we fought for 20 years!
Despite the continuing large number of unemployed, there was widespread worker shortages.
The persistent Covid 19 pandemic became politicized - including disputes over mask and vaccination mandates – very divisive.
After years of trying to reduce the trade deficit with China, it again expanded significantly.
A widespread movement emerged which tried to re-write and even destroy America’s history – including statues, holidays, education (e.g., “1619 project”, “Critical Race Theory”). Suddenly, everything about America was considered “racist”.
A wide variety of radical political programs was promoted – including “Critical Race Theory”, Gender Neutrality, LBGTQ+ focus, and Marxist/Socialist policies.
… and more
I don’t think the country can take any more of this “progress”
