2023 Theme: Scrap Happy!
Many "boomer" quilters, like myself, grew up with family members that were very used to sewing and mending clothing. There were fabric sources in most small towns and these were visited regularly. My mother esewed all of my sister and my clothes until I was old enough to sneak to a store for a store-bought dress! She even made our wedding dresses. I always enjoyed trips to the fabric stores and touching all the different types of fabric.
As a result of sewing clothing, there were scraps. After tracing with a pencil on a cereal box piece of cardboard, and cutting with scissors, the scraps ended up in a variety of quilts over the years.
Most of us don't sew clothing now, but quilting has gone crazy over the years! I started quilting in the '80s and have loved scrap quilts from the get-go. I always said I was going to quilt after I retired, and here we are - more fabric than ever, more gadgets to try and more scraps to use up! I hope to pass on some ideas for scrap quilts that you can use.
Anniversary Dinner/Quilt Challenge
"Mystery 3 Color Scrappy Challenge"
Dump a box of crayons into a bag and mix. Reach into the bag and grab 3 crayons. Choose the two you want to work with and put the third back. The challenge will be to create a quilt using those 2 colors and one accent color (black, white, or grey). You can use any hue or shade from light to dark of the 2 colors. You MUST add one accent color (black, white, or grey). Size should be no smaller than 12"x12" and no smaller than 45"x60." It should consist of 3 layers and have some sort of edge binding, no raw edges. Use cotton fabric and embellish as desired. No t-shirts. Have your project ready to show for the September Anniversary Dinner.
