If you are not a PEF Member and pay the fee for Union representation, you can easily join your fellow co-workers in PEF!
Doing so grants you the right to run for office within PEF as well as to vote on critical items like our Contract. Yes, there will be a contract vote in the relatively near future and those who aren't PEF Members won't be able to vote on it.
In addition to being able to participate in the democracy behind PEF, Members also get benefits which the State doesn't provide AND those which can save them money.
For example, PEF Members can get Short Term Disability insurance, Long Term Disability insurance, and Life Insurance. THE STATE DOES NOT PROVIDE THIS TYPE OF COVERAGE. If you're injured and have to go out on disability, you'll only have your accruals to fall back if you don't carry this type of insurance. Those with children or planning on having children really need to consider getting these remarkably inexpensive insurance policies. There is an open enrollment period coming up. You can sign up with no medical checks -- IF YOU'RE A MEMBER.
Also, you can save on such things as safe driver training courses (we offer a $10 discount through the Division) which will save you on your car insurance. There are group car and home insurance discounts. Many people take advantage of the discounts on movie tickets, and more.
If you aren't a Member take the time to look over the attached documents. One is the application for membership. We are looking forward to welcoming you to PEF.
