In 1825 a census of the Eastern Nation of the Cherokee Indians showed that they had more than a primitive civilization. 

The American Indians had become farmers, traders and manufacturers. They had great herds of swine, cattle and horses. They grew tobacco, cotton and corn which they used for themselves in part and traded to white men in part. The art of  manufacturing woolen clothes and blankets was well developed by the Indians of the Cherokee Country.

Georgia cooks should realize that honey is only a small part of the benefits of honeybees. The most important part they play is in pollinating peaches, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, melons, apples, cherries, grapes, tomatoes, blueberries…all manner of fruits and vegetables. Without honeybees and other bee pollinators, our plates would be empty except for mushrooms and a few grains like wheat and rice!
