Maligian is from Barrow, and joined the Pavva dancers in 2011. Her parents are Loretta Agnavin Burnell, the late Billy Avaiyak Burnell and Jamie Ahngasak Simmonds, all from Barrow. Maligian enjoys dancing with her daughter Agnavin Angela Cleveland.
Her grandparents on her mom's side are: Sadie Piesak Rexford and the late Burton Atkaan Rexford, both of Barrow.
Maligian's grandparents on her dad's side are Ruth Ahlvun Burnell from Atqasuk and the late Ed Burnell from Canada; and Cora Ekalook Simmonds and the late David Angik Simmonds, both from Atqasuk. These villages are located in Northern Alaska.
