NRP 77 "Digital Transformation": «The Swiss labour market in the digital transformation (SWISSLAB)» [2020—2024]

Within this project, funded by the Swiss National Research Council, we study how the digital transformation affects labour demand. We investigate in detail the impact of the digital transformation on the evolution of skill demand. To do this, we construct a new large-scale database which contains the related information sourced from job vacancies. To generate relevant insights we apply, among others, modern methods of text mining and machine learning. The insights from this new analysis provide a base for the design of policies and interventions directed at supporting the labour market participants in coping with the challenges of digital transformation.

«Field Experiments to Optimise Public Employment Service Counselling» [2019—2024]

In this project, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), we implement and evaluate a series of potential improvements of the counselling activities in the Public Employment Service. Counselling is the core activity of the Public Employment Service - it affects all job seekers registered in unemployment. These innovation projects are set up as large-scale field experiments across Switzerland. The combination of different types of data sourced during the project duration will allow for a detailed assessment of the tested counselling innovations - and more generally help open the "blackbox" of understanding the effects of counselling.
