Different maps show this in slightly different locations - all towards the western end of the current car park. The Cholera map of 1849 indicates that it would lie just inside the car park, next to the road, in a direct line with Greenwell Lane. Woods map seems to show it slightly further east. Conzen paces it near the northern edge of the current car park.
Also known as Moffat's Well.
Tate quotes the following from court records of 1683:
"A good and wholesome well lyeth in the back of Roger Moffatt's, to which well the inhabitants of Bondgate Street, within the Tower, and Market Place had always liberty; but the well is out of repair. With the consent of R. Moffatt, the inhabitants do make a Causeway to the well and repair it, and so clean and fence it, as to be no nuisance to R. Moffatt"

There is already an information board with map approximately where this well was located. This would be a suitable location for an interpretation board to introduce visitors to the pants of Alnwick.
