Palaruvi - In Malayalm it means "Stream of Milk". It is a beautiful water falls located in Aryankavu, the eastern end of Kollam district in Kerala. It is about 300 ft. in height and protected by lush green tropical forest.
The water that flows through the stream is coming from several small springs in the western ghat mountains and is untouched by humans before it reaches the waterfalls. Till very recently there was no road facility to reach the waterfalls from a major highway. Now tourists can reach upto 500m. away from foot of the falls by motor vehicles. Rosemala: Located about 15 kilo meters deep into the forest from Aryankavu, has the best experience nature has to offer. A small community of farmers live here. The fresh and calm air, greeney and quiteness you experience here are hard to find anywhere else. From many locations in Rosemala you can get great views of the Thenmala dam in a spectacular backdrop of the hills surrounding it. There are only a few homes in this village. Aryankavu is at the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu. It is the nearest village center from both Palaruvi and Rosemala. It is home to one of the most famous Ayyappa temples in Kerala. The temple festival lasts around 10 days and is celebrated during Christmas time. One of the initial railroads in Kerala, constructed during the British rule passes through Aryankavu and has a kilometer long tunnel at the state border. It is also one of the remaining meter gauge lines in Kerala. A train ride through the winding hills on this line is unforgettable. Aryankavu is also famous for the teak plantations. Nearby Places: Tenmala, about 15 kms. from Aryankavu is home for one of the most popular eco-tourism initiatives in Kerala. Tourists can take a boat ride in the cool and clear waters of the dam. Also there is a musical fountain and aquarium. Both are of very high quality.
