1000 days Until The End ...... of Dyno Testing in PA

As of today, April 7, 2018, we are exactly 1000 days from the year 2021.  Many people are not aware that 2021 will bring significant changes to our emissions testing program here in Pennsylvania.

Currently there are 25 counties in PA that require emissions testing.  The current regulations state that in 2021 and thereafter the ASM5015 (Dyno) test will not be required for any vehicles in PA.  This will impact emissions stations in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh regions and they will no longer have need of their tailpipe testing emissions analyzer.

As of 2021, the only emissions tests that will be required in PA will be either the OBDII test or the Visual Anti-Tampering check (both of which will include the gas cap test).  This will also mean that there will no longer need to be a distinction between the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and South-Central regions, as the vehicles in those regions will all require the same test based on the model year and GVWR.

The PA inspection regulations could change prior to that and end tailpipe testing sooner than that, but even if no change is made to the current law, 2021 marks the end of tailpipe testing in PA.
