posted May 20, 2021, 6:31 PM by James Trousdale   [ updated May 20, 2021, 6:40 PM ]

Attention Cub Scout Parents

The VFW will be hosting a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, 5/31, from 11:00am-12:00pm beginning at the Glen Rock where a small ceremony will take place and then we will process to Harding Plaza for another small ceremony in honor of our men and women in the armed services.  Bob Steinberg, Commander of the Thomas D. Egan, Glen Rock Post #850 VFW, will be the master of ceremonies.

Let's arrive no later than 15 minutes early to get organized.  You can park in the Main line parking lot.

We ask that your Cub and Boy Scouts come prepared to march, in full Class A Uniforms, we will have both the Pack, Troop, and American flags with us, and we need your Scouts to make the ceremony complete.

Not a large commitment of time and certainly an honorable event.

Please join us!!!

2021 Court of Honor

posted May 20, 2021, 6:13 PM by James Trousdale   [ updated Jun 13, 2021, 8:54 PM by Peter Hamilton ]

As we approach the end of the school year, we wanted to have one last get together with our event which combines the Boy and Cub Scouts to celebrate their achievements over this last crazy year.  Nothing was as it used to be but we managed to pull off not one but two Pinewood Derby's, go for several hikes in the woods and learn more about camping, fire building, safety, and scouting.

Our 'Court of Honor' will be in the Holmes Building for Tuesday, June 15th, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

We will have Pizza and an awards ceremony plus we have one Cub Scout who will be bridging to Boy Scouts!  We will need to cover the cost with a nominal charge of $8 for each Scout (Cub/Boy), and $10 for each parent.  Links below...

Payment via Paypal drop down list. Please select who will attend, and on next page you can select quantity. If you need to add another type of attendee then click continue shopping in the upper right corner to select another option from the drop down and then check out.

We look forward to seeing you and take care!

Summer Camp - Camp Yaw Paw

posted Mar 18, 2021, 5:49 PM by James Trousdale   [ updated Mar 18, 2021, 5:50 PM ]

We are happy to announce that Summer Camp will resume in 2021!!!

The Tradition continues for Cub Scouts at Camp Yaw Paw.  This year Pack 27 will go on week one (when many of the Cubs will go to be together).  There is no limit to the number of weeks you can sign-up for.

Scouts pack their own lunch, travel by bus from central locations up to camp daily, and return every evening “tired, muddy, and happy!” Families join Thursday evenings for our weekly Barbecue and campfire hosted by the Scouts.

Cubs leave camp with an individual advancement report so that they may be recognized for their achievements. Cubs who attend multiple weeks (returning Cubs) will experience different programs each week to keep them excited and engaged.

There is Early Bird pricing if you signup by 5/2/2021 of $430 for the week.
After 5/1, the cost is $475 for the week.

See the council website to signup!

On Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 - Pack 27 - Family and friends shared a beautiful morning of hiking in the woods.  It was a good time for us to enjoy the sites of Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve, learn a little bit about hiking the Cub Scout way and reinforcing hiking codes and conduct.

Photos of the event are coming soon!

Welcome Back Pack 27!

posted Sep 2, 2020, 7:18 PM by James Trousdale   [ updated Sep 20, 2020, 7:28 PM ]

First and foremost, we hope that you and your Cubs and family are safe and healthy!  This has certainly been a strange time for us all and it is our hope and every well minded intention to resume -safely- as much of our Scouting activities as possible.

Each year Pack 27 Celebrates Scouting's Anniversary Week in March with a "birthday party" called the blue and gold banquet.

This year was a little different...

In March, the School, Pack and Troop 27, not to mention the WORLD went on lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Events came to an abrupt end - just before our scheduled Pinewood Derby.  We all hunkered down at home and tried to make it all work - remotely.  As our world went online we all needed to adjust to the new reality.

Back in the Spring, we made the decision that Zoom classes and remote learning for school were more than enough for our students (insert weary picture of kids here), so we decided not to put our Cubs through yet another remote meeting.  We did not hold Cub meetings via Zoom.  We had to cancel the remainder of the Scout year programs.

As we approach the new school year, there will be plenty of changes and new protocols we must follow in order to stay safe, develop strong Cubs, and defeat Covid!

We are working with the school administrators, the school principal and local Northern NJ Scouting Council to plan fun filled events and maintain safety for all.  Please continue to refer to our evolving calendar of events (link on home page), for the latest news and activities for your Cub Scouts!

Yours in Scouting,

On Feb 28th to Mar 1st, the Webelo Cubs and the Boys Scouts of Troop 27, had a fun weekend of Cabin Camping at Camp Turrell in Cuttleback, NY.  The leaders, parents and scouts shared a heated cabin and enjoyed hiking, fire building, card playing and story telling.  It was a great winter break from the routine.

Klondike Derby 2020

posted Feb 12, 2020, 7:25 PM by James Trousdale

On a frigid Saturday (January 18th), the Webelo 2's and a few Bears competed in the 2020 Klondike Derby.  Scouts from all over New Jersey braved the cold temperatures to test their skills and Scout knowledge over ten towns (think of each as an activity station).  Each town tested a different competency such as teamwork, communication, map reading / compass skills, fire-building, first-aid, etc.

Thanks to Den Leader, Brad Simpson for his great decorations of the Pack Sled - he made it into a Roman Chariot in keeping with the 'Gladiator' theme!

Team receiving instructions at the first town:
Jack navigating the maze with help from his Cubs:
Sometimes not so much help... :)
Then he found the table to place all the found loot!
And then it started snowing!

First Aid:
Not to worry, Daniel was rescued!

YMCA Swim Night

posted Feb 12, 2020, 7:12 PM by James Trousdale

On Saturday, January 11th, both Pack 27 and Troop 27 had our annual swim night at the Ridgewood YMCA.  The group had several hours of play time in the pool to chase away the winter blues by swimming with friends and parents.

Here are a few photos of the fun!
