Cub Scouts Pack 193
Hi, and welcome to Cub Scout Pack 193! Here’s hoping the information and guidelines
presented to you in the next few pages will help you get off to a good start for the coming year.
Please keep this packet as a handy reference for future information needs regarding Pack
policy and uniform information. Thank you.
To begin with, your child is a member of Pack 193, which is in the North Star, belonging to
the Great Falls Council. The Pack is made up of Dens, which is a group of scouts usually in the same grade as that of your child.
All Packs have a Chartered Organization which acts as a ‘sponsor’, and ours is St
Mark Lutheran Church 1135 Oliver Street in North Tonawanda.
The Pack is run by the registered BSA Adult Leaders of the Pack who make up the Pack
Committee, which includes a Committee Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Event coordinators,
Awards coordinators, Den leaders, Assistant Den Leaders, and others. All parents of a Cub
Scout in Pack 193 are welcomed and encouraged to become a Committee Member. Our
committee meetings are open to all parents of Scouts in Pack 193.
Den meetings are held weekly on Thursdays at the St Mark Lutheran Church School between
6:30 and 7:30 pm.
Den Meetings
Lots of Cub Scouting happens in the den. Please remember that your child's Den Leader is a
volunteer putting forth his or her time and effort to help your scout ‘do his best’ to earn his
badges, participate in the fun, and gain all the positive values that the Cub Scout program
offers. Please assist them in the following ways.
● Please have your child to den meetings on time. Your den leaders have lots of activities
planned and it is important to have the whole group together to begin the evening’s fun
and projects.
● Lions and Tiger Cubs must have an Adult Partner with them at all meetings, trips, etc.
Enjoy the time together!
● Be an active parent. Everybody has some special abilities and ‘know how’ that can be of
great help in matters relating to Cub Scouts.
Packs 193’s dens are divided up by age group:
AOL (Grade5) Den Leader: Brittany Zachritz bnzachri@gmail.com
Webelos(Grade 4) Den Leader: Mike Kindron michael.kindron@gmail.com
Bears and Wolves (Grade 3 and 2) Den Leader: Dan Human hikewny@gmail.com
Tigers (Grade 1) Den Leader: Nick Kupiec Koupe73@gmail.com
Lions (Kindergarten) Den Leader: Sterling Marceau marceau.sterling@gmail.com
Whereas at weekly Den meetings the scouts might do activities towards earning rank badges
and awards, the monthly Pack meeting is where these awards are presented. It is an important
part of the program, as it allows the scouts to receive their recognition in front of the group as a
whole, inspires the younger scouts to strive towards achieving future ranks, and brings
everybody together for the big night!
At Pack meetings, the Cubmaster will ‘do their best’ to make sure that each Den has a chance
to display that special craft they made, skill they learned, skit they’ve rehearsed, or interesting
place they visited. In addition, there might be a drawing, advancement ceremony, or other
themed event planned for the evening.
Please observe the following guidelines in regards to Pack meetings.
● Please accompany your child to his Pack meeting. Pack meetings are a family event -
brothers, sisters, grandparents, but most of all, YOU! We require you there not only to
help keep order at the meeting (things can get a bit rowdy), but also because in Scouting
many awards are presented to the parent who then presents it to the Scout. Cub Scouts
is a family program.
● Please arrive to Pack meetings on time. Plan on arriving at least ten minutes early to
speak with your child’s Den leader about upcoming things, chat with friends, etc., as
the meeting needs to begin on time. If your child is helping out as a member of a flag
ceremony, or assisting with other Pack meeting activities, it is imperative to have them
there on time. Thank you.
● If your child has a full uniform, the Pack meeting is definitely the place to wear
it. Most of all, we hope to make Pack meetings entertaining, enriching, and FUN!!!
Financial
Pack 193 and B.S.A. Dues
Throughout the Scout year, your Pack Treasurer will collect money for various Pack functions
and activities. These will be addressed in the monthly newsletters that will be e-mailed out at
Pack Meetings, and also via weekly information given to you at Den meetings. The following is a
reminder of what fees are required for your child’s involvement in the Pack.
B.S.A. and Pack Dues This annual fee of $135 must be collected
from every registered Scout and Adult leader for the at reregistration time. This
covers your Scout for one calendar year. The $135 fee breaks down as
such: $85 National dues, $6 insurance fee, $50 council fee. This fee
includes the yearly membership to B.S.A. and insurance issued to cover the scouts and Adult
Leaders at all Scout functions. If you want to subscribe to Boys Life / Scouts Life Magazine,
your family can pay an additional $15 per subscription. New Scouts registered after August 2023 will pay their rechartering dues directly to national and will be reminded via email.
Pack Dues: All Scouts must pay the annual dues fee of $65 by Oct 2nd (or within 2 weeks of joining). This covers program materials, class B shirt, neckerchief, advancement and most activities.
New Scouts joining our Pack pay the one year registration of $135 at the time of registering. This fee covers your Scout for one full year of Scout registration and they will not have to pay in December. This is paid directly through the national organization at https://beascout.scouting.org/list/?zip=14120&program%5B%5D=pack&unitID=56584
New Scouts will also pay the pack dues of $60 yearly directly to our Pack treasurer. Pack dues cover a pack t-shirt, neckerchief, advancement and most activities.
Adult leaders must renew their membership with the national organization at recharter time.
* *Registration fees/dues are non-refundable.
Camping weekends, Summer Camp, and miscellaneous events - Registration fees and
payments for ALL pack events for all attendees will be due NO LATER THAN the pack meeting
two weeks before the event. If payment is not received in full by that meeting, you will not be
able to attend that particular event.
The Pack maintains a separate bank account with records being kept by a Pack Treasurer with
oversight from the Pack Secretary and Pack Committee. The money that Scouts earn through
fundraisers is kept and tracked in their Scout account. This money may be used for summer
camp, registration, uniforms or other Scouting expenses. The funds may be transferred to another Scout unit but cannot be used outside of Scouting.
Fund Raisers/Popcorn
This year, we are planning three fundraisers - Camp Masters Popcorn, a pancake breakfast and meat sticks. Each
family is expected to participate in the popcorn sale as it funds our Pack’s program and keeps
our dues low.
● Sale begins August 15
● Collect payments as soon as you receive an order
● Take order forms and payment due on October 24
● Take order popcorn pickup Friday Nov 15
There are 3 ways to sell popcorn:
1. Scouts can promote their sale online for internet sales - see Mr Dan for your code. This
is the easiest way to make money for your Scout.
2. Scouts may also take orders using the sheet. Collect payment and record what your
customer wants. These sheets and all collected money are due by October 24th.
3. Show and Sell: We have multiple days at Budwey's arranged. We have product available that you can sell directly to the customer.
● Benefits of popcorn include:
○ Your Scout earns 20% of all their sales for their Scout account. The Pack earns
10%
○ Being a salesperson and learning to pay your own way are important life skills.
○ Pack prize program - we refilled the prize box.
● The meat stick sale kicks off in spring and is an opportunity to earn money for camp.
Sticks are sold for 2 for $3 and your Scout will roughly receive .60 of each stick sold to
help pay for camp.
Pancake Breakfast: Details to follow
Financial Assistance for Camp
Remember, in order to be eligible to receive Camperships from Council for Summer Camp, your
Scout MUST participate in popcorn sales.
Cub Scouting and You
Throughout the year there are banquets, fund-raisers, Scout shows, parades, derbies, camping
trips, and many other activities and functions. Ambitious as they are, a Cub Scout still needs
your help in implementing the program and thereby giving us the chance to keep our promise as
volunteer leaders/
Remember, the Pack is all of us working together... leaders, parents, and Scouts. Unlike
other programs your child might enroll in, Cub Scouting involves the whole family, no matter
what size or parental make-up exists in the home. In Lions and Tigers, you are your child’s
Adult Partner. In Wolves and Bears, you are Akela, the wise leader of the tribe of Webelos,
and the final judge of your child’s efforts. At the Webelos rank, you are the Activity Badge
counselors that could help influence a scout’s career direction
Throughout the year you will be asked to assist on different committees, and at different events.
Please volunteer freely, and give of yourself when called upon to help. You will find it a
rewarding experience, and one in which you and your child will remember that you did together.
Thank you!
Pack Parent Expectations
All parents are automatically members of the Pack Committee with an equal vote. We have an
outstanding Pack with excellent volunteer leaders, families and a committed Charter
Organization. We have taken tremendous strides over the last few years to build a strong
foundation and financial plan to make Scouting both rewarding and financially feasible for all.
That being said, we are a Chartered Organization within the Boy Scouts of America. WIth that
privilege comes expectations of both the Scout and his/her family.
1. Parents are expected to be present for BOTH opening and closing remarks of each
weekly meeting. Part of being a Scout is parental involvement. It is not acceptable for
parents to drop their Scouts off in the parking lot then leave and wait for them in the
parking lot. If this becomes a concern of pack leadership, it will be addressed on a case
by case basis.
2. Coinciding with 1. Scouting does not stop at weekly pack meetings. Parents should be
working with their Scouts at home to earn additional adventures.
3. Cub Scout uniforms are a requirement for all pack meetings and official functions. A
uniform includes: uniform shirt with all required patches; neckerchief; neckerchief slide;
and hat. If you are unsure of what patches are required on your Scout’s uniform, please
see your Scoutbook or talk to your Den leader. Den leaders will be looking over your
scouts uniform during the first month and send home information about required items
missing.
4. All parents should do their best to set the example for our Scouts and treat fellow adults
and youth with respect, kindness and compassion.
5. Parents should review the BSA youth protection guidelines. Any adult attending
overnight camp must complete online youth protection training which is valid for two
years.
6. Alcohol and drugs are prohibited at all Scouting functions. Smoking is only allowed at a
designated smoking area out of the sight of Scouts.
Uniforms, Patches, and Accessories
Scouts in uniform are more conscious of their role in Cub Scouting, and feel a sense of pride
and belonging when wearing one. A uniform provides a proper place for the display of badges
earned and a way for him to ‘show the world’ that he has been rewarded for his achievements.
In addition, Scouts in uniform create a strong, positive, visible image in the community that helps
to strengthen the important ties between the public and the Scouting organization.
Where to Buy
Uniforms, patches and accessories are available at the WNYSC Scout Shop located at 2860
Genesee St in Cheektowaga. Their phone number is 891-1689, and they will be happy to assist
you.
Also, the Pack might have some ‘experienced’ uniforms for sale. Please see the Pack
quartermaster for details.
Shirts
The main article of the uniform is the shirt, as it displays the rank of the Scout, and identifies
them as belonging to a certain Den, Pack and Council. When purchasing a new uniform,
remember that your child is growing and if, for example, they are now a newly signed up Wolf
Cub, get an extra size or two larger, so they can wear it for his Bear year as well. Pack 193 also
has ‘Class B’ Pack T-shirts that Cubs can wear for a variety of activities.
Patches
In addition to the purchasing of a uniform, there will be many patches that need to be sewn on
your child’s shirt. Please pay close attention as to where on the uniform these need to be
placed.
It is important that when your child receives a badge that is to be a part of his uniform,
you affix it to his shirt as soon as possible. Your Scout earned it, and they deserve to
have it displayed. Thank you.
A uniform is something that a Scout can help pay for himself by assigning various chores
around the house, or helping out with other home projects. Also, keep in mind that uniforms,
Scout accessories, camping supplies, and other ‘Scout stuff’ make excellent birthday and
holiday presents for your child or the Scouter in your family.
Pack 193 Provides neckerchief scarfs and slides to registered Scouts.
