What We Offer

Club Activities

The Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club was organized in 1956 by families who had been canoeing together on Ozark streams, and felt that some effort was needed to help preserve those streams.  The club now has approximately 100 family and individual members.
The club actively supports conservation efforts by letters to legislators, resolutions,
petitions, testimonies, cash contributions, and affiliation with conservation organizations.   Our monthly meetings are held in Swope Park the second Saturday of the month, at 6:30 p.m.
We have a potluck supper and each person or family brings at least, one large prepared di
sh of their choice, their own drink and table service (plates, cups, and utensils).  The business meeting begins about 7:30 p.m.  We are currently meeting in the Lake of the Woods dining hall. (SEE MAP)   The business meeting is used to announce p
lans for upcoming trips, reports on past trips, support conservation efforts, and to have related programs of interest.
Members participate in canoeing with year-round schedules, both on Ozark st
reams, rivers, and activities close to the Kansas City area.  There are many weekend trips including Thanksgiv
ing, New Years, Easter, and Memorial  Day, plus three canoefests, which are planned at different seasons of the year, and last for seven to ten days.  A special clean-up trip is held on the Labor Day weekend on an Ozark stream in a competitive effort within the club to rid the stream of debris.  These canoe trips are family oriented recreation, to enjoy canoeing, swimming
, hiking, camping, and fishing.
We are also a member of the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Stream Team; we test the water quality on our section of the Blue River quarterly.  Safety is stressed and the members follow an unwritten law of “No firearms, No fireworks, and No firewater”.  A trip planning coordinator plans the assembly point, put-in, take-out, and vehicle shuttle arrangements for each trip.  Always contact the coordinator in advance of any trip you plan to make with the club.
The club welcomes all who are interested in outdoor recreation, canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking, and conservation.  Membership dues are $25.00 per year for an individual or family for the current calendar year.  Dues received in September through December will apply for the following calendar year.  An application is available on this website.
All members receive a monthly newsletter.  Ozark and Close-To-Home schedules are mailed with the newsletter, usually in February or March.  A club roster is published in April and is available at club meetings or you may request one to be mailed by the Membership Chairman.  Supplements are mailed with the newsletter periodically throughout the year.  The owwc Yahoo Group is maintained for dues paying members and all of the above publications are available for them there.
          Thank you for your interest!
