Event Guidelines


Ohio State Cheer: Event Information Guide

Coach Siobhan is in charge of the events for the program

- She will give you an event sheet prior to the event, which will tell you:

- Team contact (“Point Person”)

- Event contact

- What you’ll be doing (mingling, dances, pictures, cheers, etc.)

- What to wear/bring

Event Protocol

- Point person will call event contact prior to the event start to communicate what is needed at event.

- If event coordinator asks you to stay longer, contact Coach Siobhan ASAP, if she does not answer contact Coach Ray (Mascot Coach)

- Typical sidelines: Let’s Go Bucks, Here We Go Buckeyes, Hey Fans

- If performing, all walk off the same way so it shows we’re done performing.

- No stunting or tumbling unless a program coach is at event

- BE EARLY! DO NOT BE LATE!

- If you are running late call team contact immediately as well as Coach Siobhan to let them know

- If you don’t know what is going on, communicate with the event contact

- If you still are not getting direction don’t let them know you don’t know!

- “Fake it until you make it” and call Siobhan

Event Appearance

- Game Day Ready - Presentable!!

- Males - clean shaven

- Females - hair and makeup done well

- Always be smiling! You don’t know who’s watching!

- Siobhan will let you know prior to event if you are able to bring bags; however, try to keep most in your car and only bring in keys.

- When mingling or talking to people, partner up as 1 guy and 1 girl

- Guys - acting as if a “bodyguard” to the ladies as well as Brutus (if no handler)

- When asked, there is ONLY ONE BRUTUS

Talking Points

- It is not about you, so interact with people at the event

- Ask them questions (“What is your favorite memory as a Buckeye?”).

- Network, talk about what you are studying and interested in

- Talk about money lightly and carefully

- If asked about scholarships - “I’m not on full ride, we receive small scholarships

- If they want to donate - osucheerleading@osu.edu

- Be aware of what you’re talking about

- No swearing

- No talking about drinking/partying/etc.

- Always talk about things in a positive light (dorms, classes, etc.)

Pictures

- WATCH FOR ALCOHOL - always kindly ask for them to set it down

- Males always put the logo side of the meg in front of all photos possible

- “Family friendly”

- If people ask you to hold a sign, kindly say we are not allowed to advertise

- No sitting on laps or any uncomfortable photo position

- If becomes out of hand, leave as soon as possible and contact Siobhan

Food

- Do your job first

- “Thank you for the offer, and maybe we’ll grab a bite on our way out.”

- Keep Coach Siobhan updated on events if she is not there

- If an event is really good, let her know so that she can keep an eye out for that event in the future

- If an event goes very poorly, let her know so she can avoid in the future

- If something bad happens, let her know so she can take action if necessary

- Make the most out of every event

- There will be awkward events, be the outgoing one!

- Don’t stand around and talk to each other

FOR EVERY EVENT

- Always have high energy - regardless of size or atmosphere

- Always have high respect for who you’re talking too - better to “overdo” treatment than undergo it

- Always on your best and most fun behavior - remember who you represent

- Point Person must contact Siobhan when event is over

  • 2nd and 7 - Up to 2 appearances can "count" as events
  • Career Fairs will NOT count as events
