They were a group of teenagers, who rode their horses around Carrum and the surrounding areas in the late 1950's and 1960's. There are differing opinions regarding how the name 'Carrum Cowboys' originated. Some believe it came from a 1960's newspaper article, while others believe it was a tag given to Carrum horse riding youths by the local police. And, there are those who believe the name has been around for years. When and how the name originated remains inconclusive. However, by the 1960s Carrum's horse riding teenagers were known far and wide as 'The Carrum Cowboys.'
