The following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) should be used to prepare plant material before transport to other sites, reducing the risk of spreading undesirable pests and diseases. This process involves the application of chemicals which may be dangerous to your health. Please wear appropriate clothing, read and follow all labels and use all safety precautions - stay safe! Plant Material Soaking Process

Safer’s insecticidal soap

    • Available online via: Safer Band Killing Soap

    • Soaking solution rate: Potassium Salts of Fatty Acids, 49.52%, at the rate of 2.5 ounces per gallon of distilled water.

    • Soak the plant material for 20 seconds at the above rate.

    • Controls mites, aphids, scale, thrips, tent caterpillars, leafhoppers, whitefly and mealybugs (read the label).

Refined Horticultural Petroleum Oil solution

    • Available online via: Parafine Horticultural Oil

    • Soaking solution rate: Petroleum Oil 98%, at the rate of 2.5 ounces per gallon of distilled water. Also known as "Dormant Oil”.

    • Soak the plant material for 20 seconds at the above rate.

    • Controls mites, spider mites, scale, ants, aphids and aphid eggs (read the label).

Post Soak Pre-shipping Process

    • Shake off the excess liquid, place in bag and seal.

    • Material doesn't have to be dry to touch.
