John O'Neill married Eliza Byrne, sister of Margaret Byrne and wife of John's brother Thomas. They had one child, Hugh born in 1827. They also cared for Margaret and Thomas' daughter, Catherine, born 1829, after Thomas and Margaret went to Quebec in 1831.
